Eeeeek! Our first glimpse at the Barbie movie has come, and it’s happening. We’re getting a genuine, live-action version with Margot Robbie in all of her pink-on-pink magnificence, so no, we’re not talking about Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses or Barbie and the Diamond Castle.
Margot Robbie will both feature in and produce the movie that will be the first time this “iconic” character is brought to life by Mattel and Warner Bros. That’s a GirlBossTM if we’ve ever seen one, which is appropriate given that, according to Mattel, Barbie has worked at over 200 different occupations. “I believe it’s a terrific opportunity to put some positivity out there and a chance to be aspirational for younger kids,” Margot said in a Variety interview.
The first teaser image was posted by Warner Bros. in May, and, spoiler alert, it’s very lovely. In this brand-new sneak peek image of Barbie, we’re yelling, sobbing, and puking over her bright pink convertible, and we foresee a massive comeback of pink clothing in the near future (tiny plastic shoes not included). Here is what we currently know about the impending Barbie movie in the meantime.
Who plays Barbie in the newest motion picture?
Margot Robbie was formally cast as Barbie in 2019 following years of speculation about the movie starring the famous doll. In 2014, the movie’s announcement was made, and Amy Schumer was initially cast in the starring position. Due of schedule conflicts and creative disagreements, Amy withdrew. Before The Hollywood Reporter announced in 2017 that Margot was in discussions to assume the main part, it was first thought that Anne Hathaway would fill the position.
Why did the Australian actress choose this specific project? “I didn’t want to pick up another screenplay where I was the wife or the girlfriend — merely a spark for the male plot,” Margot said to Harper’s Bazaar. It lacked inspiration.
A recent tweet from the official Warner Bros. Twitter account featured a first-look photo of Margot as Barbie. The actress smiles at the camera while sporting a big blue beaded bracelet on her wrist, a striped blue halter top, and a blue headband with polka dots. She has her trademark blond hair loosely fashioned in waves. Margot is seen against a pink backdrop, sitting in a flashy pink convertible with her hands on the wheels.
However, a number of actresses will be playing Barbies in the future movie, notwithstanding how gorgeous Miss Margot looks in her Barbie outfit. It has been revealed that Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, and Issa Rae will all portray Barbie. Confused? Just wait and see what type of cinematic magic filmmaker Greta Gerwig conjures for the picture!
Emma Mackey exclusively revealed to Empire that the Barbies all gathered at the start of filming and shared a sleepover, which is so adorable that we can scarcely stand it. The activities they engaged in included “playing games with Scott [Evans] and Ncuti [Gatwa],” according to Emma. It’s fantastic to perform humour since Emily was a sad, dark drama, the Sex Education actress said of her Barbie role. Barbie is pink, lighthearted, playful, and made in the USA.
We want to believe that the sleepover was also pink; did anyone engage in pillow fights or wear matching pink pyjamas? How do we get a pair?
In the Barbie Movie, who plays the role of Ken?
We’re already drawing virtual hearts since the one and only Ryan Gosling will portray Ken, Barbie’s lover. And last, besties, we have a picture of the actor playing Barbie’s boyfriend. We are in love with Ryan Gosling thanks to his golden blonde hair, shirtless, full-denim outfit (good morning to Ryan Gosling’s six-pack, and Ryan Gosling’s six-pack only), and the all-pink backdrop that seems to be Barbie’s Dream House.
