There has been a lot of discussion about Wednesday Addams’ romantic interests on the programme since it debuted on Netflix. Our cynical lead, Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), and Xavier Thorpe (Jenna Ortega), were involved in a love triangle in season one (Percy Hynes White). Many viewers, however, were hopeful that Wednesday’s werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair, who was superbly portrayed by Emma Myers, would contend for Wednesday’s obsidian heart.
The pairing of Wednesday and Enid has grown to be one of the most well-liked in the entire cast, with fans giving the young couple the name Wenclair. (As of this writing, TikTok has received over 1 billion views for the hashtag #Wenclair.)
In fact, Jenna and Emma are both very much on board with this opposites-attract arc, proving that viewers are not the only ones who have seen it.
Jenna stated that “in a perfect world, [Wenclair] would have been a thing” in a brief interview she gave to PRIDE on the red carpet during the series premiere event. Emma discussed Wednesday and Enid’s friendship and their close bond in an interview with Elite Daily, saying that they were aware of the expectations of the audience for a prospective relationship.
Emma claims that she and Jenna spent a significant portion of their time filming in Romania making references to the famous “and they were roommates” Vine, which has now become a lesbian meme. Emma told the publication, “Jenna and I would say that all the time to each other.” And I believe that says everything that needs to be stated to convey the point. (Clear and audible!)
Jenna used her interview with MTV News as an opportunity to talk extensively about Wednesday’s potential love life and to spill some juicy details. Jenna says, “I feel like she’s off boys for a long now that Tyler’s off the table.” “I think [she] and Xavier are just making their way to a secure location. There’s potential for a really nice platonic connection, in my opinion.
According to them., Wednesday is considered by many to be an LGBT icon. Many were expecting the Tim Burton-led series would clearly make the character queer because of this, especially considering the nature of some of the events and teasers Netflix published as promotional material. However, the straightforward love triangle disproved this, at least temporarily.
Wednesday does certainly have some non-explicit queer code, as PopBuzz points out. The first episode of season one contains a specific scenario where Wednesday’s potential queerness is subtly hinted at when Xavier asks her, “Who’s the happy guy… or girl?,” after running into her at the Harvest festival. I suppose we’ll have to wait till season two to receive all the necessary clarifications.
