I “Let Her Loose” as a “Unhinged” Madonna in “Weird,” says Evan Rachel Wood.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which is currently available for streaming on The Roku Channel, stars Daniel Radcliffe and Evan Rachel Wood.
Evan Rachel Wood gave Madonna a personal touch.

In the upcoming comedy biography Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, the Emmy nominee portrays the legendary singer opposite Daniel Radcliffe as the movie’s co-writer and titular parody artist. Wood, 35, spoke to E! News about the ridiculous way she portrayed the now 64-year-old Madonna in the 1980s.

“I watched a tonne of interviews and would frequently play them on set simply to get used to the tone and rhythm of her voice. I just let her wild on set, cranked up the foundation I had, and created the most deranged, stage-mom-like Madonna anyone had ever seen “She spoke out.

Wood noted that she and the project’s co-producer, Radcliffe, 33, “were both completely devoted and had a fantastic sense of humour.”

Wood spoke to PEOPLE at the Toronto Film Festival in September about his preparation for the role of Madonna.

She added, “This is one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve worked on.” “I thought, “Oh no, now I’m just going to want to do comedies,” since it had been such an amazing experience. It was frequently quite challenging to maintain composure.”

She remembered that, from clothing and costume to hair and makeup, “everyone had fun” creating the Madonna persona, who was entirely fictitious.
Before the filming, Wood remarked, “I simply binge-watched Madonna interviews from the early ’80s and her music videos and stuff.” “Fun was had. There’s a reason why she’s known as Madonna, so it’s always nice to go back and revisit and realise, “Oh, okay, she’s a genius.””

Afterward, Wood declared she wanted to preserve the outfits. She remarked of the Madonna outfits, “Every day it was just as enjoyable as the first time I put it on.” “I would simply record myself moving around and Dubsmashing in my trailer continuously. But I don’t believe I was given anything to retain.”
