Earlier this week, Elon Musk threatened to build his own smartphone if Apple and Google decided to ban Twitter from their app stores.
Elon Musk, the controversial new owner of Twitter, responded to a tweet from right-wing podcast presenter Liz Wheeler saying that Musk should make his own smartphone if Apple and Google remove Twitter’s app from their stores.
“Half the country would be happy to be rid of the prejudiced, nosy iPhone & Android. A foolish little smartphone should be simple for the man who makes rockets to Mars, right? Wheeler threw in.
I truly hope it does not come to that, but sure, if there is no other option, I will develop an alternate phone, Musk wrote in response to Wheeler’s tweet. This is something Musk does frequently.
Wheeler then posted a poll in response to the question, “Would you switch to a tELONphone? Use your best pun to vote “yes” or “no” for the name below.
Musk, who paid $44 billion for Twitter, has been troubled by large layoffs and worries that the website may stop working.
According to a Friday NPR story, Twitter has lost half of its major advertisers due to worries that budget constraints have made the website unable to police hate speech.
“It appears that 50 of the top 100 marketers on Twitter have stopped doing so. These 50 marketers have spent about $2 billion on Twitter advertisements since 2020 and more than $750 million only in 2022, according to a Media Matters for America research, said NPR.
