Martin Sensmeier will return to the 2017 criminal drama directed by Taylor Sheridan and starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner.

The 2017 Taylor Sheridan thriller “Wind River” is getting a follow-up, and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” director Kari Skogland will helm it. Martin Sensmeier (“1883,” “Westworld”) will reprise his part from the first movie.

The movie, “Wind River: The Next Chapter,” is released by Castle Rock Entertainment, which Rob Reiner just relaunched. Although more cast members will be revealed shortly, it is unknown if the movie’s original actors, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, will make any sort of cameo. Sheridan did not work on the sequel to “Wind River,” which he wrote and directed.

In the 2017 film “Wind River,” a hunter (Renner) helped an FBI agent (Olsen) look into the killing of a young lady on a Wyoming Native American reservation. As a number of ritualistic killings go unsolved, fear has grown on the Wind River reserve in “The Next Chapter.” The FBI recruits Chip Hanson (Sensmeier), a brand-new tracker for the U.S. Fish & Game, who is caught up in a violent struggle between the government, a vigilante, and the tribe he considers home.

The script was written by John Zinman and Patrick Massett (“Friday Night Lights,” “Tomb Raider,” “Gold”). In January 2023, production will start.

Matthew George, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee are producing the movie for Thunder Road Pictures, Acacia Filmed Entertainment, Castle Rock Entertainment, and Matthew George. Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner, Derrick Rossi, Jonathan Fuhrman, Courtney Shepard, and Hernan Narea are among the executive producers of Castle Rock.
Gal Gadot’s next “Cleopatra” movie will be directed by Skogland, who is renowned for her work on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Showtime’s “The Loudest Voice” and “The Loudest Voice,” respectively.

Sensmeier has performed in “Yellowstone” and “1883” in addition to being a frequent actor for Sheridan. Sensmeier has also appeared in the movies “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Ice Road.” At the end of the first season, he joined the cast of NBC’s “La Brea” for Season 2. He has just joined the cast of the thriller “Takeover,” starring Migos musician Quavo.
“Wind River” made its Sundance debut in 2017 and went on to win Sheridan the Un Certain Regard at Cannes for Best Director. Just a few weeks before the Harvey Weinstein #MeToo crisis occurred, The Weinstein Company premiered the movie in theatres. As a result, Lionsgate finally bought the movie for home video distribution, and Sheridan fought to regain ownership of the project. “I can’t have a film about violence against women suppressed by the perpetrator of that particular crime,” he said at the time, according to Vanity Fair. He eventually persuaded the Weinstein Company board that was still in place to release the film’s rights and give the revenues to charity. Despite having a $11 million budget, it made $44 million at the global box office.

Under the leadership of CEO Rob Reiner and Co-Presidents Matthew George and Michele Reiner, Castle Rock Entertainment debuted in October of last year with a $175 million film fund. A sequel to the 1984 cult favourite “This Is Spinal Tap” is currently under production, and it is scheduled for release in early 2024.
